Fit, not features

Which one should you choose?

Both are good at different jobs. Start with the reasons Smith.ai may suit you better.

Choose Smith.ai if…

  • You want a real person within reach on every call: Smith.ai’s AI can hand callers to its live North America-based receptionists, and its human plans put a person on every call, 24/7.
  • You get Spanish-speaking callers. Its AI handles English and Spanish, and live plans offer a dedicated Spanish line.
  • You’d rather start free and set it up yourself: the AI plan includes 25 calls a month at $0, and Smith.ai says setup takes about 15 minutes.
  • Your firm runs on Clio, Salesforce or Calendly, which Smith.ai connects to natively — and you want a lower price per AI-answered call than Infold’s.

Who picks up when the AI can’t help?

With Smith.ai, complex calls can move to its own team of live receptionists, day or night — something Infold doesn’t offer. Infold transfers the caller to your people, by your rules, or takes a detailed message and alerts whoever you choose. Smith.ai also sells a hybrid plan, where AI answers and live agents take the calls you choose, from about $2.50 a call. If you want an outside team of humans as the backstop, Smith.ai is built for that.

Who builds it, and who keeps it right?

Smith.ai’s Free and Pro AI plans are self-serve: you set it up with its Quality Studio and support team, and the full-service build is on Enterprise. Infold is managed on every plan — a 30-minute call, then we write your greeting and approved answers, connect your calendar, test it with you and keep tuning it from real calls.

What does each cost for about 100 calls a month?

On Smith.ai’s published rates, AI Pro is $150 for 75 calls plus 25 extra calls at $2.50 — $212.50 a month (our arithmetic). Live receptionists on the 90-call plan come to $810 plus 10 extra calls at $10.50 — $915 a month before add-ons such as booking. Infold is C$699/mo billed yearly (C$8,388) or C$999/mo month-to-month for 100 handled calls, in Canadian dollars plus tax. Smith.ai is cheaper for AI-only answering; Infold’s price includes the build, integrations and ongoing tuning.

Where is call data stored?

Smith.ai’s pages we checked don’t say which country stores or processes call data. Infold hosts call data in Canada by default, and Canada-only processing is available. Whoever you choose, ask where each part of a call runs — the phone line, speech recognition, the AI model and storage.

How to switch

How do you switch from Smith.ai to Infold?

Keep your number: we build and test your Infold receptionist first, then you change where your line forwards — usually one setting with your phone provider. If you ported your number to Smith.ai, ask them to port it back to your phone provider before you cancel. Smith.ai asks for 30 days’ notice on AI plans, so give notice once your Infold go-live date is set.

Live in 2 business days once we have access and your approvals. You keep your number the whole time.

Questions

Infold vs Smith.ai: common questions

Is Infold cheaper than Smith.ai?

Not for AI-only answering. On Smith.ai’s published rates, its AI plans cost less per call than Infold’s C$6.99 a handled call on the annual plan (C$9.99 on monthly). Infold’s price includes building your receptionist, connecting your systems and ongoing tuning, and it’s in Canadian dollars.

Does Smith.ai charge in Canadian dollars?

Its pricing pages don’t name a currency, and its terms describe prepaid account balances as “denominated in U.S. dollars”. Infold prices are in Canadian dollars, plus applicable taxes.

Can Infold put callers through to a live person?

Yes — to your own team. When a caller asks for a person or your rules say a call needs one, Infold transfers it or takes a detailed message and alerts the person you choose. Infold doesn’t supply its own team of human receptionists the way Smith.ai does.

Which is better for a law firm?

Smith.ai connects natively to Clio Grow and Clio Manage, and its live receptionists offer conflict checks as a per-call add-on. Infold collects intake and conflict-check details, books consultations and never gives legal advice; Clio is connected during setup. If you want humans on intake calls, choose Smith.ai. If you want it managed for you and hosted in Canada, talk to us.

Does Smith.ai store call data in Canada?

The Smith.ai pages we checked don’t say where call data is stored or processed. Ask Smith.ai directly. Infold hosts call data in Canada by default.
